The moment that everyone dreads throughout their twenties, turning 30. Personally, I couldn’t give a monkeys cos there is so much other stuff going on at the moment that all it REALLY meant was big presents! Thanks to all those who splashed out, especially so close to Christmas, it was not necessary but thoroughly enjoyed. Even more so, thanks to those who took the bait, donned the beanies and joined us for a ripper in Budapest, Hungary.

Of all our travelling in the past five years, city breaks have contributed a fair percentage. With a gabillion trips to South Africa and the World Cup in the West Indies it has been a while since we did a 2-day jaunt on a true city break. We have always wanted to visit Budapest, and my birthday offered the perfect opportunity. So the invite went out and 6 lucky souls accepted. Needless to say it was an absolute belter, and we came back having experienced just about everything you can in 2 days - flight delays, hotel misunderstandings, beautiful city architecture, beer, gluwein, Christmas markets, lost comrades and a lot of champagne (some more expensive than others). As you all know we recently enjoyed a fleeting visit to South Africa for Bruce and Carrie’s wedding. The service was held in Pinetown, with family friends Gill and Chris conducting. It was an all round family affair with Murray playing all the music live at the church - it was the first time I have ever heard Murray play live and he is the real deal. Everyone (it seems except me) dabbles in some musical instrument at some stage in their lives, but music certainly more than a hobby for Murray. It was incredible watching him play.
The reception was at the Botanical Gardens in Durban, in the visitors/conference centre. I didn’t even know the place (conference centre) existed and it made for a very cool venue, especially as the reception was at lunchtime. In fitting with Bruce and Carrie’s wishes it was very relaxed, informal afternoon, and the reception went off without a hitch. I have uploaded some photo’s here, although no doubt there will be many more to follow once I have seen Bruce’s collection.
Congratulations to Bruce and Carrie, we wish you a lifetime of happiness.

Just realised that I hadn’t uploaded photo’s from Murray’s wedding, so here they are. There are only a few taken on Sarah’s camera, including a big family pre wdding dinner at Olive and Oil, and then the wedding at DCC.
And, no, I don’t know what Murray is doing in the first photo, nor am I sure what Sarah is trying to achieve in photo 8.

In amongst the mayhem of work, planning a wedding and buying a house (more on this later) Sarah and I snuck off with Jo and Ryan for a long weekend break to the Cote d’Azur in October.
Despite booking ages ago, it was almost not too be as the UK traffic ONCE AGAIN did it’s best to interfere with my holiday plans. Some of you will remember the Sicily experience and closure of the M25 trying to get to Stansted - well this wasn’t much different as in the end it took Jo and I nearly 2 1/2 hours to get from Wimbledon to Gatwick - a 50 minute journey….. Sar and I have just returned this morning from Paris after Sarah won a competition in the Metro for an all expenses paid trip to watch South Africa smash the hell out of England at Stade de France! The trip included return Eurostar tickets on Friday lunchtime returning Saturday morning, awesome seats to watch the rugby and a nights accommodation at a hotel in Paris - Thanks to Orange for the hospitality….
This however is only half the story… Read the rest of this entry »

UPDATE - Photo’s have been uploaded to Flickr for your pleasure! A warning, some are graphic! Click here
Sarah and I are back ‘home’ safely after our unforgetable trip ‘home’. The trip was unforgettable for a number of reasons, not least of which our engagement, but mostly for taking a considerable amount of the trip chilling with family and friends. Thank you to everyone who made an affort to break from the Christams period routine to spend time catching up, it was really awesome seeing how well everyone is. Thanks to Fridgey, Bwymie and Woody for organising the various days out on the golf course, and thanks to Puggy and the Ceolocanth for taking us to victory on Christmas Eve! Congrats to Steve and Mon as they announced that Monica is pregnant with their first child.
After a storming start, the ‘What I love about South Africa’ tour diary stalled somewhat in weeks 2 and 3, and I think I’ll have to summarise the last few days instead of writing individual posts. The Boxing day test might get its own post though……

My annual company dinner-dance is usually held in May, but with the whole takeover, the weekend was postponed until October. We returned this year to the old haunt of the New Forest and the Passford House Hotel near Brockenhurst. Last year was a forgettable detour to Eastbourne. In comparison however, the Passford House Hotel has always been popular, and offers genuine top class service in an amazing setting in the middle of the New Forest. This was my third visit to the Passford House Hotel on the company tab, and it was another great weekend. Sar and I chose to take up the reduced rate offer and head down on the Friday night to getr full value. Dave and Deanne joined us on the trip down and we enjoyed a good evening in Lymington. On Sat Sar and I set out on the bikes early to take in the best of the New Forest and ended up riding a solid 50km on trails, firebreaks and country roads, and passed through Burley, Bolderwood and Brockenhurst on our adventure. We met Tony and Gayz for lunch and then joined the already festive mob back at the hotel to watch England struggle against Macedonia - at least the Carlsberg was cold. Sat evening was the dinner dance, which was thoroughly enjoyable. Sunday we all enjoyed breakfast, before Sar and I destroyed the opposition on the manicured croquet lawn - although it should be mentioned that Tony displayed some rather odd tactics when in easy range of the win. Tea was served at the hotel, before we took in Christchurch and Ringwood on a roadtrip back to London.
Thankfully there isn’t much evidence of the Sat night activity, but i have uploaded some photo’s here.

I unveiled to the world details of our impending trip to the West Indies for the cricket world cup, and I can now FURTHER reveal that I have set a website to track preparations for the epic! So, for all the latest news, and interviews with the tour party stars, log onto: Windies Tour 2007. The site is only in its infancy and with 16 in the tour party, hopefully everyone will get amongst and post a plenty. Alternatuively, you will have to endure my drivel on not only 1, but 2 websites!! Enjoy.

I have been itching to let the world know about this, but for the fear of the jinx I have held out. Until now. it is now all official and I can reveal that we (Sar and I) are going to the World Cup cricket in the West Indies in April 2007. Yea, that’s right, 2 weeks of blissful sunshine in the Caribbean watching the worlds best cricketers go at it in the 50 over format, and on the off days we will be forced to dive in the ocean, drink rum and play beach cricket. If I could manufacture a trip from scratch and individualised to my tastes, it may well come out exactly like this: Read the rest of this entry »
