The Super 14 and the 6 Nations kicks off in the next couple of weeks, and as usual the Chateau Toby fantasy rugby league will be up and running on Test Rugby! I have left it rather late this year to send out a reminder, but you have all of 5 days to get your picks in. Usual rules apply, and if you have played before then simply log in with your previous details. The league is set up and ready to go.
For those of you who prefer spreadbetting, then head over to Mudders’ website and sign up for Mudrugby. All you have to do each week is pick your winner of each game and the margin of victory. Simple. For the first time you can also choose whether to lob in a few bob with a winner takes all kitty. Payment is not obligatory though, and you can just play for bragging rights - have a look at the rules here.

Welcome back all rugby fans, Chateau Toby is once again proud to host a league in the Test Rugby fantasy rugby competition! I can’t remember the total number of entries last year fighting for the coveted Chateau Toby trophy, but it was a fair number and a great competition it was. Read the rest of this entry »

Following the success of the ‘Testrugby’ fantasy rugby competition for last years tri-nations, a league was set up for this years Super 14. Slightly more complex and time-consuming this time round as 12 players were required for all rounds incluidng the playoffs and multiple trades available at all stages to get everyone on their toes. I missed out on rounds 1 and 2 due to sheer lack of time in selecting my team. However, the Liverpool ‘comeback’ magic rubbed off as Chateautoby powered through the field during the latter group games and held on at the final post to take victory by 1000 points!
The top 3 finishing places in the Chateuatoby league were as follows:
Chateautoby - 37,880 points for a global finshing place of 2,265
Perennial Sharks - 36,795 = 2,553
Land Lubbers - 30,380 = 4,429
Daniel Carter was my trump card thorughout as he consistently amassed serious points, and will be a dead cert pick for my Tri Nations fantasy team. Speaking of which, watch this space for details of the 2006 Chateautoby Tri Natiosn fantasy league on Test rugby!

Following THAT incident at Old Trafford a month back between Gary Neville and the Liverpool supporters, the famous ‘Hit the Penguin’ game has been adapted. Basically, naughty Mr Neville (who was found guilty today for misconduct and fined over the incident) is pitched as a baseball and the user as the batter has the chance to hit him out the park. Not very complicated, which should make it availbale to millions of scousers. Go on Dave, I know you wanna!

Saturday night also revleaed the identity of a few of the higher flying players in the Tri-Nations fantasy rugby league. You will remember from the fantasy rugby roundup that Budvar stole the show in the Chateau Toby league and nearly claimed the overall title. Budvar was followed by Chris’s sharks and Mike Hunt. I long suspected that Mike Hunt was the alias of Mr Ryan McKechnie, and so it was confirmed on Sat night. The identity of Budvar was, to say the least, a suprise. There are few bigger blows to the male ego than to get to reaped in a sports trivia competition, in a sports bet or in a sports game of any nature for that matter by a female. I therefore have the pleasure in exposing the identity of ‘Budvar’ as none other than Maca’s fiance Sarah. Yip, thats right lads, we all got beat convincingly by a girl. Congratulations to Sarah, you certainly did yourself and made Mac proud, and rightly so!!!

I didnt write after South Africa’s narrow yet pulsating loss to the All Blacks in Dunedin last weekend, and thought I’d await the result of the big finale at Eden Park. Just at a time when we needed the canary yellow of the Aussies to pull through for us, true to form, it was not forthcoming. Despite a big come back at the beginning of the 2nd half, the AB’s eventually pulled away to a comfortable win in the end by 10. A decent preformance though by the Aussies who were fielding a seriously understrength side away from home. So the much spoken about back-to-back Tri Nations win for the Boks did not materialise and the AB’s win back the trophy by 2 points in an truely exciting competition. The AB’s also retained their slendor lead over South Africa in the IRB world rankings. It will be very interesting to see the performances of the respective teams in the in over rated ‘end-of-season’ money making tours to the Northern Hemisphere.
The end of the Tri-Nations also brought about the end of 2 fantasy rugby competitions. Read the rest of this entry »

I have just realised that i have not yet confirmed for the world, the final outcome of Paul Brown’s Major Golf Challenge. You may remember from earlier posts that I had some catching to do on Chris in the last major of the year to rake in the fortune of R3800. Unfortunately, it was not to be as I went wide and and got the treatment. Read the rest of this entry »

After all the talk, fifteen men took to the virtual battle field to contest the Tri Nations with the aim of becoming the first Chateau Toby Champion - a title much revered around the world I assure you. Out the blocks in week one are Mike Hunt and the Australian ‘Budvar’, whilst Chris used his experience to place a respectable tie 3rd. The Grand Master opened up with a solid, if not spectacular 1,130 points ensuring a temporary midtable location. The biggest news of the weekend must be ‘Land Lubbers’, who despite vast experience in the game, opened up with a loosener which not even Mark Boucher could stop for going for 4 down leg. Slightly dissapointing also is the news that Mike’s brother ‘Yorke’ decided not too enter. Read the rest of this entry »
