I have just realised that i have not yet confirmed for the world, the final outcome of Paul Brown’s Major Golf Challenge. You may remember from earlier posts that I had some catching to do on Chris in the last major of the year to rake in the fortune of R3800. Unfortunately, it was not to be as I went wide and and got the treatment. Read the rest of this entry »

To some, tomorrow’s clash against the mighty All Blacks is just another game on the international rugby union calender. Most educated South Africans and Kiwis know better though, and appreciate the enormity of the occcasion. Read the rest of this entry »

Perhaps a post more for those living in the UK, although those that have lived here and have moved back to warmer shores will find it equally hilarious. Here, we are talking about ‘CHAVS’. For those not familiar with the term ‘Chav’ it relates to the latest status of loser tracksuit wearing teenager, who has nothing better to do then lurk around street corners smoking and drinking or pushing around what appears to be an endless conveyor belt of babies. As Ali G brought bling to the fore, so millions of young Brits have adapted Ali G’s hilarious antics into swarming reality, with the emphasis on cheap. I stumbled across this side-splittingly funny website dedicated to ranking the biggest ‘chavtowns’ in the UK, Chavtowns.co.uk. Read the rest of this entry »

The last full week of August has arrived and everyone is still wondering when summer will start. After a mild winter with a smattering of snow, autumn seems to be arriving far to quickly again and without the stench of sweaty pits usually associated with the UK summer which is completely unprepared to handle hot weather. The arrival of autumn is becoming far too obvious judging by the time of sunset. By the 1st of September, sunset will be at approximatley 19:45 and accelerating towards darkness. Moving swiftly on……. The Richmond Hill Hotel hosted the 5th summer ball on Saturday night, to raise funds for the Mount Michael charity. I don’t know much about the charity, but basically a charity fund was set up in 2002 by South Africans living in London, to raise funds for development of a community centre, creche and church in Mount Michael in Sweetwaters (S?), near Hilton, KZN. The Mount Michael team arrange several fund raising events throughout the year, and have proved how far pounds can go when converted and used for a good cause. A superb evening was had by all, it is always god to don the tux and bow-tie and razzle the night away!!! Special mention to Brian Riemer who supported the cause at the last minute and who wore his favourite pair of beige chino’s! It was good to party with Drew Wilson again, see Claire May and also ‘Banger’ Holding who I haven’t seen since the dark days of UND hockey. Check out a few photo’s in the Photo gallery. If you would like more information on the charity and how you can get involved, feel free to leave a note or get in touch and I will put you onto the right people. Similarly, if anyone reads this who is involved and detects any errors in the charity details, please let me know!

Sars and I went round Kam’s and John’s a couple of weekends ago for a ‘quiet’ Sunday afternoon braai. The only reason I remember the date was because it was the Sunday that Retief threw the 2005 US Open into the bush…. I digress… Anyway, fairly bulk standard Sun arvie braai, apart from a brand spanking new paddling pool which came in handy as the temperature in London soared to about 25! I haven’t uploaded any photo’s yet, but thought this one deserved special mention, John, the king he is with graphics, has gone and stitched a few together and trademarked the foolproof Guy Laister party formula!

We are heading on a road trip to the Cotswolds for the long weekend at the end of August with Kam and John to see John Ellis and Tree63, and I am sure that there will be a lot more of this to report afterwards!

The 4th golf major of the year, the US PGA championship, tee’d off a short time ago at the Baltusrol Golf Club in New jersey. As you are aware from previous posts, Brown-Eye has been running a cumulative spreadbetting competition on all 4 majors, with the winner pocketing a cool R3800. Read the rest of this entry »

Summer is always a hectic time round London (it never really stops to be honest but summer especially!), and after our relaxing trip to the Cotswolds last weekend, this weekend past got the blood pumping again. Read the rest of this entry »

So, there I was seemily keeping up with technology, after all I had a mobile phone with camera and mp3 player, I had a mini-disc player, and a 3 megapixel camera…..etc….. BUT not so! After unleashing the power of open source software in developing this site, the SPV550 phone I have just got my grubby hands on continues to impress. Read the rest of this entry »

Most will have noticed that I recently uploaded the famous curry joke of Frank the poor American enduring a tasting competition in Durban. I wasn’t going to post a note directed everyone to it, but I’ve just read it again and fallen off my chair laughing. For those who’ve have read it recently, your stomach muscles are probably still sore, for those that know it but haven’t read it recently, read it again, and for those who have never read it before, grab a tissue because you are about to laugh yourself until your eyes can weep no more!!
