Sars and I returned in body, but perhaps not quite yet in mind, this evening from the Austrian blowout. Man, what a long weekend. We boarded, skiied, ate, drank and played fuseball until we seemingly could not longer go on. The conditions were perfect, the weather stunning, the company out of the top draw and the atmosphere brilliant. More to follow…………

ITs been 2 years since I ‘graced’ the slopes of the alps, and the day has finally arrived to display my silky skills once again!! We fly out of Stansted today at lunchtime and return on Sunday evening. 14 of us in total including some outrageous characters so it should be a great trip. Keep checking the website for updates and photos. Also check out Wozafriday and Grayskullduggery for updates. YEEEEEHHHHHHAAAAAAAA

That time of year again when the forces of the southern hemisphere clash in the ultimatec lub rugby championship of the world (Heinekin cup bla bla). Mudders aka Jeremy Malherbe has set up his fantasy rugby competition again this year and it promises to be a jol as always. All you have to do is predict the winner of each game and the points margin. No hassle of selecting players and changing the team etc. Just predict and win! Here is Mub’s email and all the necessary details Read the rest of this entry »

The BBC has long been renowned for objective reporting of topical subjects and breaking news. Despite nationwide outpouring of grief for the whale that beached in the River Thames on Saturday, the BBC have taken a slightly less compassionate view on the subject on todays frontpage of the website. Check it out:

I have just realised that in the excitement of the build up to Christmas, I completely forgot to congratulate Phil and Bryan on tying the knot in Durban on the 17th December last year! Congratulations!! Sars and I were unfotunately unable to make the trip back to SA, but I have heard from numersous sources that it was a really great day. Phil has sent out an email with a link to photo’s of the wedding which you can access at Bebo.com. There are some really stunning photo’s, so for those like us that weren’t there, it is well worth a look. Phil is using this platform as a general photo library as well, and I think I may have spotted a picture of the lesser-spotted Craig Smith, but I cannot be sure……….

Unfortunately, the whale that I reported about earlier in the week which had navigated its way up the River Thames, died during a rescue operation yesterday. Sars and I were lucky enough to catch the rescue operation just upstream of Battersea Bridge during our bike ride through London, and managed a couple of photo’s.

Throngs of people lined the banks (literally), the Thames Path and brought Battersea Bridge to a standstill in an effort to get a glimpse of a 18ft whale in the middle of the city.

The week has arrived when we board (scuse the pun) a plane to the snow!!! After much sceptism as to what the conditions will be like come wednesday, the latest news is very good. I have been checking out the latest on the net, and the key word on many websites is ‘powder’! yyyyyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!! For anyone interested, check out the official resort site as well as the snow forecast site Skiinfo.co.at. I quote from the Kasberg-Grunau siteThe snow is soft and plentiful and lifts are running. The weather threatens though with predicted temperatures at resort level (only 600m) on Tuesday ranging between a minimum of -17 and a maximum of -7………… I hope the indoor heating is working and that my new ski pants are actually waterproof!

Really cool news from London, as I speak, a northern bottle-nosed whale has found its way up the Thames estuary and is swimming thorugh the centre fo London! They reckon its 16 - 18ft long and weighs 7 tonnes, not large by whale standards but certainly fascianting to see such a creature enjoying the sights and sounds of central London. Check out Sky News for the details. If he gets tired he want to hail a black cab!

the interest in this evenings Brick Lane adventure has spiralled out of all control, and short of emailing everyone I know personal invitations, I thought I’d leave a note here. Dave Mardon made the rather shocking admission a couple of weeks back that he had not experienced Brick Lane (he has subsequently been backed up by further Brick Lane virgins), considered by the English as the centre of the curry universe. To be honest, its not much more than your average negotiation for a cheap bunny on Grey Street, but the fellows here don’t know that we have years of experience in dealing with such negotiations so its always good fun to see how cheap a curry and how many free Cobra’s one can get. So, the plans are to meet at Aldgate East tube station at 19:00 this evening and ‘buggun’ or way through a festive evening. About 20 of us getting together at last count!

Some of the more observant of you out there may have noticed that I’ve added an additional link, that of Kelly-Ann Maxwell’s new site. Kam returned to the muddy island well over a year ago now (could be 2 years by now, I lose track….) for a second foray, and has recently returned back to SA for Christmas and New Years to show John the wonderful wild. Cool to have another blogger!!
