Went down into Putney last night for burger and beer at Reds (apparently there is one in Wimbledon as well) with Laz. We were parking cheesy launching back an ice cold Grolsch, minding our own business when what do you know? In wandered the Fishmonger with his friend Claire!! This may not seem as random a coincidence as one may initially think, but considering it was a Thursday night and Dave lives in Hertfordshire, the chances are quite slim. Anyway, had a really good evening, kicking back, demolishing a few Grolsch and chatting up a storm. Read the rest of this entry »

Despite an inkling that this may be underhand work (onthis occasion by one David Fisher), a nomination of any sorts for any prize is an honour (well, I can think of a few prizes which one would probably not want to get nominated for like the Darwin awards). So roll out the red carpet and sound the drum roll, its time for the 2nd annual SA Blog Awards!
There are 13 categories in this years blog awards, and Chateautoby has been nominted in the ‘Best overseas-based South African blog’, a category for blogs written by a South African living in a foreign country!! As I am a South African, and I live in a foreign country, and I have a blog……. it all makes sense!
You can check out some background to the awards on Dave’s website, but the main point is that voting began yesterday and is open until midnight on the 3rd March, so get clicking and vote for your favourites in all categories, but especially the Best overseas blog.
Dave has been nominated in no less than 2 categories and has cracked the nod, along with best overseas blog, for the most humorous blog as well. Whilst you’re on the SA blogs site it is well worth checking out some of the other sites, a lot are absolutely hilarious.
So if you like this blog then go on and make it a winner!
PS you can vote once a day, every day…………..

Following THAT incident at Old Trafford a month back between Gary Neville and the Liverpool supporters, the famous ‘Hit the Penguin’ game has been adapted. Basically, naughty Mr Neville (who was found guilty today for misconduct and fined over the incident) is pitched as a baseball and the user as the batter has the chance to hit him out the park. Not very complicated, which should make it availbale to millions of scousers. Go on Dave, I know you wanna!

Hit Gary Neville

Rumour has it that someone got a clip of Dave Maddog Mardon on the back slopes at Kasberg where no other man dared to go. With scant disregard for life and death, Dave took on the mountain……… Maddog? Let me know whether you think it is Dave or not……..

Liverpool avenged the defeat of 3 weeks ago inflicted by the 87th minute winner of Rio Ferdinand today, by treating Man Utd to a true Anfield experience. Man U travelled to Anfield in the pick of the 5th round draws of the FA cup, Liverpool were missing Alonso, Man U – Ferdinand. Sir Alex played Ronaldo, Giggs, Fletcher and Richardson across the midfield but quickly realised that they were no match for Gerrard, Hamann, Sissoko and Kewell. In fact, it wasn’t even a game in midfield. Sissoko went in hard… at everything, Kewell attacked, Gerrard bossed and Hamann did as Hamann does and cleared up. Despite numerous chances and far superior possession, Liverpool won by a solitary goal, a Crouch header which defeated Van Der Sar’s outstretched hand after the goalkeeper had kept Utd in the game moments before from Kewell. This victory is more crucial than the loss of three weeks ago as Liverpool remain only 3 points behind Utd in the race for the 2nd automatic Champions League place behind Chelsea, whilst remain on course for both FA cup and Champions League glory….. AGAIN!

There’s been quite a bit of banter and cross referencing since the ski trip between Dave, Grayskull and this website as interesting, topical and often useless titbits of information are dug up. Two more cross references for you to enjoy, firstly from Daves website a story he found on Tucker Max’s blog about a recent bender. The story is absolutely hilarious, these blokes are blessed with a combination of incomprehension of consequences, a genuine creative streak and too much time on their hands. Secondly Durbanite Peksta has written about a subject we all encountered at some stage in the varsity years, the arguement of ‘Old vs New rules’. A sterling effort peksta, and I recommend to the millions of Chateautoby fans out there that we all spread the news about Peksta’s rules.

A post for those of you out there pounding the pavement, tracks, paths and bridleways on your chosen form of transportation, be it foot or bike. Brendan found this cool online tool which is powered by google maps used for measuring route distances. You have to sign up (its free) and you can even save routes within your own personal account, name way points (like you would on a GPS), etc. I have other GIS programs for calculating route distances but this is certainly a simple method of doing it on-line. Check out Warfaring.
On a side note, I keep on referring to Brandan Gray’s website and all the cool stuff he finds on the web, so I’ve just added his website link with Dave, Dave and Kams’ so you can check out the Grayskull’s site.

The government made a miraculous U-turn on their smoking policy last night when the commons voted between 3 options for a smoking ban in England. MP’s were aksed to vote between:
a full ban outlaying smoking in all pubs, bars, clubs and restaurants
a partial ban excluding private members clubs, or
a partial ban excluding pubs that did not serve food
.
The governmnet had oringally proposed a partial ban, but were ultimately swayed to offer a vote to the Commons’ and MP’s voted for a full ban. So from the summer of 2007, we will be able to enjoy pubs, bars, restaurants and clubs without having to inhale putrid tar from the air and it will no longer be necessary to air evening clothes for several days after visiting the local. I feel healthier already!!
Check out details on Sky News and BBC.
