Last man standing
And then there was one…….. Sar and I have just returned from another trip to the great outdoors for my brother Bruce’s wedding. Everything went off without a hitch and it turned out to be an awesome day. It was a morning wedding, with the service held up in Pinetown followed by the reception at the Botanic Gardens in Durban. It was great to see everyone again, especially my aunt Christine who travelled 31.5 hours all the way from the British Virgin Islands.
Unfortunately I was only in SA for 3 1/2 days, so there’s not much else to report. Sarah celebrated her birthday on Thursday, the day I flew in and it was good to catch up with all the Westville crew (inland people). Friday my dad and I set off at 6am for the golf course and I creamed Mt Edgecombe 2 in the wind, including the closest I’ve ever come to a hole in one - nearly drained a 5 iron on the 7th but it came to a halt a foot right of the pin. Once again, I can confirm that the Hansa draught is particularly cold and refreshing at the MECC clubhouse. Sitting on the balcony overlooking the 18th loaded with peanuts and cold hansa in hansa in hand is without doubt a one of the best ways to spend a weekday lunchtime. Saturday was the wedding, and Sunday we stopped in JHB on the way home to see Chris, Phil, Wilbur, Holly, and Hamish, as well as the Tobes’. It is always good catching up with the Jozi crowd. Living in England certainly doesn’t help your pool cricket skills, I can tell you that much. Plus, nothing like flying halfway round the world, a wedding on the Saturday and a few icy colds before picking up a cricket bat to slow the body’s reaction time as I proved by getting continuously pinned all over. Chris and Willow said they had fun. I need to raise my game. Thankfully SA were involved in a humdinger one-day international against NZ so my torture was shortlived as we retired to watch the game.
Two questions to finish: How come one needs 1-2 hours less sleep a night in South Africa than in England, and why does one not get hangovers in South Africa? These questions are not based solely on a 4 day holiday, but on 25 years expereince in SA and 5 years experience in the UK. I telling you, its true.

In amongst the mayhem of work, planning a wedding and buying a house (more on this later) Sarah and I snuck off with Jo and Ryan for a long weekend break to the Cote d’Azur in October.
